The house of Givenchy was founded in 1952 by designer Hubert de Givenchy. Following his retirement in 1995, Givenchy was succeeded by several acclaimed young designers namely: John Galliano (January 1996), Alexander McQueen (October 1996), Julien MacDonald (March 2001) and Riccardo Tisci (March 2005).

 

 

 

In February, 2005, Riccardo Tisci – an Italian designer in his late 20's was appointed creative director at Givenchy for of all the women’s collections (Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear and Accessories). Raised by his mother and eight sisters, Riccardo Tisci left Italy for London at the age of 17. He then attended Central Saint Martins college. After graduating, he worked freelance for almost five years for several companies and designers before launching his own collection in Milan. After two successful seasons with the press and buyers, he came to Paris to join the house of Givenchy.
